What good are computers in the learning process?

Well, I for one find computers very effective and non-effective in the learning process. I do agree that our society and education are both strongly influenced by technology, but such use should not be the basis of learning. We as teachers must work with technology to teach, and not rely on technology when we run out of material. We must also not rely on technology constantly because it is not perfect. Errors could occur in the set-up of a powerpoint or an electronic lesson, and if we are not prepared with hard copies of lessons or material, we will be in the dark..literally! Our students will have nothing to do but goof off and we have just wasted a whole day that could have been spent introducing an abundant amount of material. On the other hand, I do believe students should become familiar with technology because they will only encounter it as they get older. Yet, we as teachers must show them the appropriate ways to use technology- for aid, not answers.
